Vitamin D

"Lab studies have suggested that higher vitamin D blood levels may boost cognitive functions of the brain. And people with impaired cognitive function are more likely to develop dementia, with some small clinical studies suggesting that low levels of vitamin D may be associated with dementia and poor cognitive function." [1]

A previously conducted study found that "people with optimum levels of vitamin D were much less likely to be cognitively impaired. In other words, having too little vitamin D in your body appeared to make it harder to think … a status associated with greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia." [2]

A new study conducted by a joint team of British and American doctors have found similar results as the previous study. They also concluded that vitamin D is a "hormone-like vitamin" that is a "necessary brain nutrient." The study determined that "people with the lowest vitamin D levels were more than twice as likely to have impaired understanding, compared to those with the highest vitamin D levels" (Llewellyn DJ et al. 2009).[3]

The understanding of the role of vitamin D in maintaining optimal health has advanced sharply in the past two decades. There is mounting evidence for beneficial roles for vitamin D in reducing the risk of bone diseases and fractures, many types of cancer, bacterial and viral infections, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.

Recently, several reports have also been published regarding the role of vitamin D in neuroprotection. It should be no surprise that doctors and scientists continue to study the effects of vitamin D deficiency in the aging. With Alzheimer and other forms of dementia on the rise, the search for a cure is ever present.

Vitamin D supplements can be found in every health food aisle of your favorite grocery and drug store. I believe that people understand that a lack of this all important, formerly known, sunshine vitamin causes serious problems to the human body. However, is supplementation the answer?

Within the previously mentioned studies, scientists conclude that "further research is warranted to investigate whether vitamin D supplementation is a cost effective and safe way of reducing the incidence of cognitive impairment in the growing elderly population around the world."

You can learn more about vitamin D, and if supplementation is right for you. Not being a doctor or health professional, I cannot say if you need to take a vitamin D supplement, but from what I've read, I do believe that if I'm not getting out in the sun enough, or eating foods high in vitamin D, I should do something to up my daily intake.

The nutritional experts at TriVita know the importance of vitamin D. That's why they have created VitaCal-Mag D. VitaCal-Mag D provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption.

Weigth Loss

Desperate To Lose Weight

Are vegetarians are more successful at weight loss than other people? Of course people may become vegetarians for reasons other than losing weight but because they tend to eat more fruits and vegetables they also tend to eat fewer calories overall. So can vegetarian diets help you with your weight loss goals? Let’s take a look…

The epidemic of obesity in the USA cannot be denied. More and more people than ever are on diets and trying to lose weight so naturally a vegetarian diet has appeal. Debating the pros and cons of a vegetarian diet are beyond the scope of this article, rather we’ll focus on a few facts so you can make a decision about whether or not a vegetarian diet can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

Many studies have shown that people who follow vegetarian diets decrease their risk of cancer by 30% to 50% and they also tended to have lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure. It is unclear whether it was simply the diet alone that made the difference or people who are vegetarian tend to be more active overall. If the diet did play a role it was likely due to the inclusion of fruits and vegetables versus higher fat foods.

Fruits and vegetables tend to have fewer calories than processed foods and meats. Therefore, simple math will tell you that if you substitute fruits and vegetables for highly caloric processed foods on a regular basis, you will tend to eat fewer calories overall. The fewer calories you eat, the more weight you will lose. That said, vegetarian diets alone are no guarantee of weight loss. It is just as easy to over eat healthy foods such as nuts, beans and breads as it is junk food. So while a vegetarian diet may indeed be healthier, an individual choosing it must still be mindful of portion control and not over eat. Remember that if you eat more calories than you burn off, you’re going to gain weight, whether you’re vegetarian or not. So don't not forget to exercise as well.

Sonoran Bloom

Every day, we're exposed to toxins in our air, water and food-and even toxins created by our own bodies. TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ harnesses the power of betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants that flourish in the Nopal cactus, to rid our bodies of these deadly toxins.

Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, he says, "Sometimes our own healthy cells become the focus for disease. This often happens because of toxic exposure. When we eat, drink or breathe a toxin, or if it is absorbed through our skin, our detoxification system works to remove it before the poison can compromise our health."

"Unfortunately, many of today's poisons are simply too strong and they overwhelm our detoxification system and enter healthy cells. These cells now become the target of disease, infection and inflammation."

The causes of inflammation and its effects on the human body is an ongoing process. In a recent newsmax.com article by Dr. Blaylock, he says that "the latest studies show that inflammation is an independent risk factor for heart disease that is much stronger than any measure of cholesterol."

I've included the article written by Dr. Blaylock, in its entirety. Inflammation is a serious problem, but can be defeated with the proper product. I believe that TriVita has that product, Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™. Read the article below and you decide if inflammation is something to take seriously.

Bursting the Bubble of the Statin Myth – It's Inflammation, Not Cholesterol

The dream of all pharmaceutical company CEOs has been to develop a drug that people will need to take for a lifetime to control their ailments. The cholesterol-lowering statin drugs have fulfilled that dream.

Statin drugs have been the biggest moneymaker in history for the pharmaceutical industry, as not only drug companies but also physicians who promote them. But all is not as it appears.

Articles touting the advantages of statin drugs have appeared in the most prestigious medical journals in the world. But scientists working for pharmaceutical companies have written some of them.

Amidst all of the positive article and media hoopla, the public has been denied one essential bit of information: The benefits of statin cholesterol-lowering drugs are no better than taking an aspirin a day. (Dr. Blaylock has also written a special report called, "5 Breakthrough Medical Updates You Need to Know."

In fact, according to the pharmaceutical industry's own studies, the improvements in reducing heart attack and stroke risk are virtually the same as following an aspirin regimen.

We also are not being told that the link between elevated cholesterol levels – even LDL cholesterol – and heart disease is much weaker than measures of inflammation, especially highly sensitive CRP (hsCRP).

The latest studies show that inflammation is an independent risk factor for heart disease that is much stronger than any measure of cholesterol.

A study of two statin drugs, atorvastatin and pravastatin, found that patients with low hsCRP levels had fewer heart attacks no matter their LDL cholesterol level and they had more heart attacks if their hsCRP was elevated, regardless of their LDL cholesterol level.

The same thing has been found for stroke risk. Another recent study examined patients on high and moderate doses of statin drugs. It found that, in both groups, there was no difference in the cholesterol levels of those with cerebrovascular event (stroke) and those without. The only difference was the levels of hsCRP – that is, inflammation.

Few physicians who prescribe statin drugs know that the link between elevated cholesterol levels and strokes has never been established, but the link to inflammation is strong and is supported by many laboratory and clinical studies.

Why won't the drug manufacturers and physicians who promote statin drugs just change their policy and give statin drugs only to people with increased inflammation?

It all comes down to dollars. If I make lowering cholesterol my goal, especially a drastic decrease, I can persuade doctors that everyone, even children, should take them for a lifetime.

Yet, if I use hsCRP or other measures of inflammation as the criteria for prescribing statins, the drugs would not be given to 75 percent to 80 percent of people presently prescribed to use them. That is a massive loss of revenue.

Now that the statin promoters have admitted that inflammation, not elevated cholesterol, is the cause of atherosclerosis, we can examine ways to reduce inflammation in our bodies (and our blood vessels in particular) instead of using statin drugs.

Most chronic diseases and conditions, such as metabolic syndrome and abdominal fat, are associated with chronic inflammation.

- Dr. Blaylock

Wow, did you read that last sentence? "Most chronic diseases and conditions, such as metabolic syndrome and abdominal fat, are associated with chronic inflammation."

I wonder if that's what Hippocrates meant when he said that "all disease is one?" And I wonder if that's why TriVita developed Nopalea™.

TriVita's Nopalea™ (made from the Nopal cactus) specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[1] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

If it's true what Hippocrates says, "all disease is one", and if the majority of diseases are in some way related to inflammation and toxins, doesn't it make sense to try TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™, which has the powerful antioxidant betalains.

For information on how you can boost your health and extend your life by reducing chronic inflammation, go to the Sonoran Bloom web site by clicking on the previous link.

Weight Loss

Desperate To Lose Weight

Every person that begins a diet and exercise plan does so with the intention to become healthier and lose weight. How to lose weight quickly is a common question, which is why some people enlist the help of a personal trainer to guide them through the diet and exercise maze. Of course, diet and exercise is the healthiest way to lose weight, but it does take some time. As fat is replaced by muscle, calories are burned more efficiently and a leaner appearance is the result.

Sometimes it’s easy to get discouraged with this approach, but progress cannot be measured solely on what the scale reads. Muscle weighs more than fat, and many times weight stays the same or only decreases at small increments. Though it may not seem like much, weight loss is occurring at a steady rate.

Diet and exercise is great but in most cases, the weight doesn’t just melt off like some people expect it to, which is why people want to know how to lose weight quickly. Depending on how much weight someone wants to lose, there are lots and lots of ways how to lose weight quickly. Low carbohydrate diets such as Atkins and the South Beach Diet are a good way to lose weight quickly, a lot if needed.

Dieters can usually lose from five to ten pounds relatively quickly, but dieters should still be aware of their nutritional intake and not restrict themselves too much. Low carbohydrate diets emphasize eating greater amounts of protein, while restricting consumption of carbohydrates and refined sugars. The cayenne pepper diet attempts to use pepper to boost your metabolism. Once these foods are eliminated cravings will decrease, and the pounds will start to melt off as well.

Weigth Loss

Desperate To Lose Weight

Well the 4th of July is now behind us and it back on the diet to lose weight, so what is the best way to lose weight and keep it off?

Your weight loss plan needs to be slow and consistent, a healthy weight loss plan delivers small successes everyday, building momentum along the way, peaking at the point in time when you reach you’re goal. This is key to dieting success.

Most dieters do the opposite…they experience fast weight loss early, their momentum peaks mid-way, and by the end of the diet, they are completely deflated. With no energy left to carry them into the next stage of weight loss — weight gain prevention — most dieters give up at this point.

Remember every diet plan need to also include exercise to burn off excess fat and tone your body.
