Weight Loss Incentives

Statistics show that average weight loss for dieters on conventional diets amounts to a mere 5-8 pounds per year. Why is it so difficult to loose weight? According to some health experts, there are three reasons why loosing weight is so hard:

  1. We don't have a sufficiently powerful incentive;
  2. We let ourselves go hungry;
  3. We don't deal effectively with "bad days"

There was a survey conducted a couple of years ago about weight loss. In that survey, dieters where asked to identify the three biggest obstacles they faced when following a calorie-controlled eating plan. The most popular replies were:

  • Inadequate incentive to lose weight (75 percent)
  • Hunger (70 percent)
  • Bad days (69 percent)

What causes these diet problems, and how we can overcome them?

Most individuals that gain weight either do so because they consume too many calories, or burn too few. The most common cause of weight gain is a combination of both. On the other hand, to lose weight, one has to correct this calorie imbalance by changing their eating and exercise habits. But that's where the problem comes in, "creating a new habit."

Regular habits aren't easily changed, especially if it means cutting out our favorite food treats. The only way to do it is to find a strong incentive (motivational means) to help us change. The easiest way to create an incentive to what to make a change is to ask yourself a question, how will I benefit from loosing weight?

Most dieters have weak reasons for wanting to loose weight, so they start and then usually give up in a very short period of time. Reasons like "I'll feel better", or "it'll make my spouse happier", are weak reasons. With a weak reason, there's no incentive to loose weight.

To loose weight, and stay the course, one needs a strong reason, one that is personal, specific, and has a time frame attached to it. For example, "I'm going to loose weight so I can go scuba diving in the Caribbean in the summer of 2010. This is something I've always wanted to do, but I felt I was too heavy and so out of shape that I haven't done it before."

Now we have a strong reason for wanting to loose weight. We have set a time limit, summer of 2010, make it specific, going scuba diving, and made it personal, something I've always wanted to do. A reason like this will keep someone more focused on the task, and keep someone motivated to loose the weight.

Something else that will help you loose weight and keep it off is the Weight Loss System by TriVita. TriVita's Leanology is what you need to be well on your way to healthy weight loss. The comprehensive Leanology 3-Step Value Pack offers the most advanced system of weight loss products on the market.

Leanology products are scientifically formulated and physician approved. They are natural, nutrient based, and contain no stimulants. Leanology has been clinically proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The 3-Step Value Pack is easy to follow and convenient!

Continuing on your weight loss journey, when the going gets tough, is easier when you're motivated. That's why it's so important to come up with your own reason to loose the weight. Weight loss is not easy, but it's a lot easier when you have a strong reason for doing it, combined with a weight loss system that produces results.

Mens Health

Mens Health

The silent killer of mens health is your homocysteine level. Homocysteine level, what is homocysteine?

Homocysteine is an amino acid used normally by the body in cellular metabolism and the manufacture of proteins. High levels in the blood are thought to increase the risk for heart disease by damaging the lining of blood vessels and enhancing blood clotting.

You cannot feel high or elevated homocysteine levels. This is what makes it the silent killer of mens health. High levels of homocysteine can lead to stroke, heart attack, diabetes, osteoporosis, dementia or Alzheimers diseae.

There are no quick home tests to determine your homocysteine levels. You need to ask your doctor to have your level checked.

High levels can lead to thickening and hardening of arteries and weakening heart tissue. Your bones may not be able to absorb calcium leading to weak bones and osteoporosis. Dementia and Alzheimers disease can result from the building of fibrous webs in the synapses of your brain.

Preventative care is always better for mens health than post operative care. You can protect yourself from the effects of high homocysteine levels by taking Trivita HCY Guard. Trivita independent clinical testing has proven to lower homocysteine levels 30 to 40% in just 42 days.

Mens health should be checked every 12 months at least and a homocysteine test should be incorporated. If you have high homocysteine levels there are alternatives to drugs prescribed.

Trivita prides itself on having all natural products, plus Trivita always offers a 60 day money back guarantee on all product.

New Study on Omega-3 Fatty Acids

A few years ago, the U.S. FDA approved a qualified health claim for animal foods that contain long-chain omega-3s:

"Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease."[1]

In 2000, FDA announced a similar qualified health claim for dietary supplements (i.e., fish or algae oil) containing EPA and DHA.

Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) continues to shed light on the benefits of making fish an important part of any diet. New research from CUMC has shown that omega-3 fatty acids decrease the amount of blockage in the arteries of laboratory mice.

"Now, a CUMC research team led by Richard J. Deckelbaum, M.D., Director of the Columbia Institute of Human Nutrition, has found that a diet rich in fish oils can prevent the accumulation of fat in the aorta, the main artery leaving the heart. The beneficial actions of fish oil that block cholesterol buildup in arteries are even found at high fat intakes.

The study was conducted in three separate populations of mice: one that was fed a balanced diet, one that was fed a diet resembling a 'Western' diet high in saturated fat, and a third that was fed a high fish fat diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids."[2]

They found that this effect was related to the ability of omega-3s to markedly decrease levels of a molecule called lipoprotein lipase, which – in mice and humans alike – traps LDL in artery walls.

This discovery could help explain the documented heart-health benefits of higher-than-average fish and omega-3 intake.[3]

Dr. Deckelbaum advises those interested in increasing omega-3 intakes to either eat more fatty cold water fish or take fish oil supplements (CUMC 2009). One such supplement that I promote is TriVita's Omega Prime.

CUMC's research will likely prove to be important as a new mechanism which helps explain benefits of omega-3 fatty acids on heart health.

When doctors talk about the two types of cholesterol, LDL and HDL, they are really talking about different lipoprotein "packages" in which cholesterol is carried.

My understanding on LDL and HDL is the same as in an article by VitalChoice: "The body uses high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) to remove cholesterol from the blood, and it uses various kinds of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) to carry cholesterol through the blood."[3]

Although I'm not a doctor, or health professional, I did have high cholesterol levels, so I asked my doctor to explain it to me. To learn more about LDL and HDL, and their effects on your health, read this article by VitalChoice (http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_article001342171.cfm?x=bf6PgS6,b6hFv6bq).

TriVita's Omega Prime is a supplement that can get you your daily requirements of omega-3 fatty acids. If you don't like fish, Omega Prime can be a great addition to your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are recommended by doctors and health professionals, so make sure you're getting your recommended daily requirement.

Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

Weight Loss

Are you getting Fatter? Do you have higher-than-normal levels of blood glucose and triglycerides? Is your blood pressure high? Is your HDL (the “good” cholesterol) low? According to the National Institutes of Health, answering yes to all or most of these questions may signify metabolic syndrome.

As of 2007, nearly 47 million Americans were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. If you’re one of them, then that means you are at an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Overweight and obese individuals are particularly at risk for metabolic syndrome.

But metabolic syndrome Isn’t only thing that can have you wishing for a metabolism boost. Aging often brings about a progressively sluggish metabolism. Beginning roughly at age 25, the average person experiences their first metabolism slowdown, usually by 5 to 10 percent. This metabolism drop continues each decade thereafter. A person living in the United States can expect to see a whopping 20 and 40 percent decrease in their metabolic rate during adulthood.

The good news is that, by making simple healthy lifestyle changes, you do not have to become a part of these statistics. A healthy diet and regular exercise can do wonders in the treatment of metabolic syndrome and in the prevention of weight gain as we age. In particular, there are healthy foods you can eat that will stimulate metabolism and promote weight loss.

Which foods boost metabolism? Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, eggs, and fish are all good examples of foods that help speed up a sluggish metabolism. The key to boosting your metabolism is to eat a variety of unprocessed foods. Unprocessed foods are often higher in fiber than processed foods. Your body will try hard, unsuccessfully, to digest the fiber. All this extra work your body does equates to a nice metabolism boost and helps weight loss.

Increasing fiber intake is only one of the ways good nutrition can boost your metabolism. Eating foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and tuna, is an excellent way to speed up your metabolism. Research has shown that fish oils can increase a person’s metabolism by up to an amazing 400 calories a day.Omega-3 fatty acids can be taken via pill form,

So, do yourself a favour and stay away from frozen dinners and other packaged foods at the supermarket. Drive past those fast food restaurants and their artery-clogging meals. Instead, do what healthy people have done for generations—open up a recipe book and cook your own meals.

The great thing about having a recipe book handy in your kitchen is the control it brings. You have the power to prepare the healthiest meals possible. You can use ingredients that will boost your metabolism. You control the cost of your meals. A healthy recipe book is the best investment you can make when looking for Weight Loss or to maintain your current weight
